Dr. Deng has spent much of her career studying viruses that are causative agents for tumors. Her main research interests are to investigate the replication mechanisms of viruses and virus-host interactions, so as to gain insights into viral pathogenesis and to develop better therapeutics and diagnosis. Her current work are summarized as follows: 1) to study the mechanisms governing transcriptional regulation, genome replication, and virion morphogenesis and egress of tumor-associated herpesviruses; 2) to investigate the interactions between tumor-associated herpesviruses and the host innate and adaptive immune systems, both in vitro and in vivo; 3) to develop and test novel gene delivery vectors based on a murine herpesvirus; 4) to investigate the underlying mechanisms for viral hepatitis.
