From Oct 13 to 17, a high-level program on Biomacromolecule Structural and Functional Analysis was held in the Institute of Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attracting 79 attendees from 45 domestic organizations.

The program was delivered in two parts – one on technical reports and the other on training. On Oct 14 and 15, reports were presented by speakers from leading universities and research groups, including Prof. Li Haitao from Tsinghua University, Prof. Liu Junfeng of China Agricultural University, Senior Engineers Chen Yuanyuan and Liu Xuehui as well as Yu Xiaoxia and Zhang Hongjie from the Institute of Biophysics, Senior Engineer Li Wenqi and Fan Shilong from Tsinghua University, Biacore Product Manager from GE Healthcare Life Sciences Xu Zhiyong, MicroCal ITC Product Manager Han Peiwei of Malvern Panlytical, and Engineer Ou Xianjin from the Institute of Biophysics.

They shared insights on the application of six relevant technologies in life sciences and medication development, including X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, surface plasmon resonance, isothermal titration calorimetry, and analysis of ultracentrifugation and isotopes. Q&A sessions were held at the end of the reports.

Over the two following days, Liu Xuehui, Zang Shanshan and other staff of the Structural and Functional Analysis Laboratory delivered demonstrations of technical facility operation, maintenance, and data processing. They engaged participants in detailed discussions on the potential technical issues that can be encountered in application and operation.

The program was part of the 2019 Professional Technical Know-how Upgrade Project jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and CAS Bureau of Personnel.
