The Institute of Biophysics (IBP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held a meeting on Sept 28 to launch a strategic and pioneering science and technology project (Category B) specializing in "Cross-scale Research on the Structure and Function of Biomacromolecule Complexes" and to discuss the work arrangements for this year.

Shen Yi, director of the Department of Life Sciences of the CAS Frontier Science and Education Bureau, introduced the background and overall state of the project.

Xu Ruiming, director of the IBP and leader of the project, delivered a report on the project's overall implementation plan, including its orientation and goals, foundation, supporting conditions and research team.

Zhang Yongqing, deputy director of the CAS Frontier Science and Education Bureau, indicated that the project will contribute to the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). He said he hoped the project team will forge ahead and bring forth new ideas in the follow-up implementation.

Zhang also said that the project team should conduct innovative scientific and technological exchanges, cooperation and collaboration with institutions at home and abroad, in line with the national science and technology plan, further consolidate its scientific and technological foundations, and thus help the institute in its ambition to become the world's leading scientific research institution.

The project members had in-depth discussions and exchanges during the follow-up working meeting. And the project leaders made a detailed outline of the future scientific research objectives and implementation plans of the project.

The launch meeting, besides starting a cross-scale study of the structure and function of biomacromolecular complexes, made a thorough layout and plan of the project's future development and laid a solid foundation for the smooth progress of the project and the close cooperation between project teams in the future.
