A three people delegation led by Mr. Yasutaka Moriguchi, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan visited the China-Japan Joint Laboratory of Structural Virology and Immunology (CJJLSVI)at the Institute of Biophysics in the afternoon of February 3, 2010. Mr. Moriguchi and two officials from the Beijing Representative Office of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) were welcomed by Professor Rongqiao He, Deputy Director of IBP at the institute’s Zou-cheng-lu meeting room. After a warm opening remark, Professor briefed the current status of the Joint laboratory and expressed his sincere appreciation to MEXT’s support to this collaborative project. Later, Dr. Lei Zhang from the International Liaison Office of IBP gave a brief introduction of the institute. Mr. Moriguchi reiterated the importance of the Joint laboratory to both countries and wished the next five-year cooperation a smooth and fruitful one. Then Professor Zene Matsuda gave a presentation on the joint lab’s research and development. At last, Mr. Moriguchi had a tour of the joint laboratory and was impressed by IBP and the joint lab’s rapid development and achievements.
Founded on May 26, 2006, the joint laboratory’s research is focused on structure-function relationship of viral proteins as well as the complex interplay between virus and host. Both virological and immunological approaches are applied to develop useful diagnostic and therapeutic methodologies. After the successful first five-year cooperation, both parties are expecting an even more fruitful collaboration in the next five years.
