Professor John H. Krystal, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine, Yale University, visited the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences on August 29th by invitation of Academician CHEN Lin.

Professor Krystal gave a presentation entitled “Glutamatergic Treatment Strategies for Schizophrenia and Depression: A Translational Neuroscience Perspective” in which he introduced his research on schizophrenia and depression and the glutamate treatment developed by his group.

The report was followed by a Q&A session. Professor Krystal later paid a visit to the Beijing MR Center for Brain Research and learned about the Center’s current research and development roadmap. 

Professor Krystal obtained his bachelor’s degree at the University of Chicago in 1980, and only four years later, his doctorate from Yale University. Currently, he is the Robert L. McNeil Jr. Professor of Translational Research, Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Chief of Psychiatry at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Director of the NIAAA Center for the Translational Neuroscience of Alcoholism, Director of the Clinical Neuroscience Division at VA National Center for PTSD, Director of the VA Alcohol Research Center and Medical Director of the Schizophrenia Biological Research Center, DVA.
