Research Interest 

1. Besides its critical role in limiting pathogen infection, more evidence has indicated that innate immunity is essentially involved in the regulation of other pathophysiological processes, including aging, metabolism, autoimmunity and tumorigenesis. The innate immune system in Drosophila is finer multi-layered, which serves as an ideal model system to understand innate immunity of mammals, and particularly, human diseases. In an attempt to address this issue, we set up a series of genetic screenings for abnormal innate responses to bacterial and/or viral infection. We aim to determine the regulatory pathway/network of innate immune response to infection and a set of new genes/factors can be identified for better understanding of the innate immunity and potential translation to human medicine.

2. High calorie/fat diet (WTD) leads to weight-gain and diet-induced-obesity (DIO).However, the mechanisms of the interaction between gut microflora and immune response during DIO are still unclear. Here, we will take the advantages of drosophila and immune deficient mice model with WTD/DIO, 1) to study corporately the change pattern and the immunological regulation mechanisms of gut commensal microflora and the fat/energy metabolism; 2) to determine the network regulations among mucosal immunity, gut commensal microflora and obesity; and 3) to reveal the molecular and cellular mechanism for the eco-immunological regulations of gut flora and obesity.
