Molecular Mechanism of Diabetes

Glucose homeostasis is of critical importance to human health, and it is be precisely regulated by insulin. Insulin is a key hormone made by pancreatic beta cells, and its deficiency or resistance are considered as major risk factors in the etiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our researches focus on the beta cell dysfunction resulting in abnormal insulin secretion during the progression of patients from a state of impaired glucose tolerance to diabetes. To achieve the research aims, plenty of advanced techniques are performed, including molecular and biochemical assays, proteomics, transcriptomics, gene editing, animal models, stem cells, organoids, and live cell bioimaging.
