Research Interest

My research mainly focuses on photosynthesis related membrane protein complex.
Photosynthesis is regarded as the most important chemical reactions on earth, this process requires the synergy of multiple protein complexes, including two membrane protein complexes that binding pigments: photosystem I and photosystem II (PSI/PSII). The initial reaction happened in PSII. PSII can absorb light energy, split water molecules, release oxygen and proton, transfer electron to the downstream. PSI can also absorbs light energy and plays an important role in electron transfer, and it has very high electron transfer efficiency. PSII’s antenna is LHCII, and PSI’s antenna is LHCI, in some specific light environment, some LHCII can specifically bind to PSI, which can balance energy between PSI and PSII, this process is called state transition. I manily studied the structure and function of photosynthesis-related protein complexes through cryo-electron microscopy and crystallography methods, and so far we have obtained a series of important achievements in this field.
