National Laboratory for Protein Science

Updated: 2021-11-08

The State Council issued an outline for the National Medium and Long-Term Program for Science and Technology Development (2006-2020) in January 2006 and designed an overall deployment of the country's science and technology work over the next 15 years. Protein research was listed as one of the four major national scientific research programs, and the construction of national laboratories was considered a priority among science and technology infrastructure construction.

Protein science research and national laboratory construction each have important strategic positions and significance in leading future science and technology development, prompting leapfrog development and building an innovative country.

In December 2006, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced 10 newly-launched national laboratory pilot projects. Given the national science development strategy for the next 10 years and the advantages of protein science research in the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ministry made it clear that the National Laboratory for Protein Science would be built within the institute.

At present, the laboratory is in development.
