Research on Infection and Immunity
The CAS Institute of Biophysics has conducted frontier studies of infection and immunity in a bid to meet national demand for the prevention and control of major viral infectious diseases such as AIDS and virus hepatitis. It has made noticeable progress in the research of many key aspects, which range from viral infection and endogenous immunity to the interaction between microorganisms and virus hosts, naturally immune response-feedback and effect mechanisms, immune escape and immune resilience, and adaptable immunity and immunity treatment, and promoting the industrial development of biological technologies. Relevant findings have created fundamental theories for both the CAS and the country in the prevention and control of infectious diseases and supported the transformation of scientific research into medical treatment. The institute was thus honored with a first-class merit citation, second-class merit citation and third-class merit citation at the Beijing Science and Technology Award in 2011, 2013 and 2009 respectively.
